Why a VZP dentist matters

If you are insured with VZP (Všeobecná zdravotní pojišťovna), choosing a dentist with a VZP contract means care covered by public insurance is billed to VZP rather than to you. That includes preventive check-ups, basic white fillings and some root canal treatment. A dentist without a contract can charge you directly, and VZP will only pay such a dentist for necessary urgent care.

Even at a contracted dentist, not everything is free. Implants, whitening, veneers and higher-grade materials cost extra, and some treatments are only partly covered. Our guide to what Czech health insurance covers at the dentist explains the 2026 rules in detail.

How we found VZP dentists in Prague

A clinic appears here only if its own website says it has a contract with VZP. We checked each one on the date shown on its profile. Many of these clinics also work with other public insurers, such as OZP, VoZP, ČPZP or ZPMV; where a clinic lists them, you’ll find the details on its profile. Clinics that didn’t state their VZP status aren’t included, although some of them may have a contract too. Contracts can change, so always confirm with the clinic before your first visit.

Finding a VZP dentist that will register you

A contract with VZP doesn’t guarantee a free place. Many Prague practices are full. Use the “New patients” filter above to see the clinics that say they are accepting new patients, and contact several at once. When you call or email:

  • Say that you are insured with VZP and ask whether they will register you as a regular patient, not just for one visit.
  • Ask how long the wait is for a first (registration) appointment.
  • Ask which parts of any proposed treatment are covered and what you will pay, and ask for a written treatment plan.
  • Bring your VZP insurance card and ID to the first appointment.

If nobody will take you, VZP helps its clients find a contracted dentist through its branches and infoline. Our guide onhow to register with a dentist in the Czech Republic explains the process and your options.

EU visitors and the EHIC

Visitors from the EU, EEA or Switzerland can use the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) at any dentist with a contract with a Czech public health insurer, including the clinics on this page. Standard care is free, but you may pay for non-standard treatment or materials. Dentists without a public insurance contract don’t accept the EHIC.
