Emergency dental services focus on urgent problems: injuries to the teeth or mouth, bleeding, swelling or inflammation with a fever, and pain that painkillers don’t control. Other problems, such as a lost filling without pain, are usually treated by your regular dentist.
Call 155 or 112 straight away if you find it hard to breathe, speak or swallow, if you have a swollen or painful eye or sudden problems with your eyesight, a lot of swelling in your mouth, or you can’t open your mouth.
These first-aid steps follow the International Association of Dental Traumatology (IADT) guidelines:
If you’re from the EU/EEA or Switzerland, bring your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). It covers treatment at dentists with a Czech public insurance contract, including the emergency services above; you pay the CZK 90 emergency fee. Private clinics without an insurance contract don’t accept the EHIC. With travel insurance, keep every receipt and the dentist’s written report for your claim.
