What Invisalign and clear aligners are

Clear aligners are a series of thin, transparent plastic trays made to fit your teeth. Each set moves the teeth a little, and you switch to the next set at regular intervals until the teeth reach the planned position. They are an alternative to fixed braces for many adults and teenagers who want straighter teeth without visible brackets and wires.

Invisalign is the best-known brand, but it isn’t the only one. Clinics in Prague also list systems such as Spark and Ordoline. The clinics above say on their own websites that they offer Invisalign or another clear aligner system. If you want a particular brand, ask the clinic which one it uses.

How treatment works

According to Invisalign, treatment follows three broad steps:

  1. Scan and plan. The dentist or orthodontist makes a 3D scan of your teeth and uses planning software to map out how the teeth will move. You may be shown a preview of the expected result.
  2. Wear the aligners. You collect your aligners and swap them for the next set as instructed. You’ll have regular check-ups so the clinic can monitor progress and give you new aligners.
  3. Keep the result. When treatment ends, you’ll need a retainer to stop the teeth moving back. This is true of braces too.

Aligners only work while you’re wearing them. Clinics typically ask you to wear them for most of the day and night, taking them out to eat, drink anything other than water, and brush your teeth. If you’re not sure you can wear them consistently, ask whether fixed braces would suit you better. See our page on orthodontists in Prague for the other options.

Who are aligners suitable for?

Aligners are often used for mild to moderate crowding, gaps and some bite problems. More complex cases may still be treated with aligners, but may take longer and cost more, or the clinic may recommend fixed braces instead. Only an examination, usually with X-rays or a 3D scan, can tell you which option fits your teeth. Be cautious about any offer that promises a result before you’ve been examined.

Your dentist may want to treat any tooth decay or gum problems before aligner treatment starts, so expect a full dental check as part of the first consultation.

What clear aligners cost in Prague

These prices are copied from clinics’ own published price lists, as checked in October 2026:

  • Smile Centrum Eliška lists Spark clear aligners from CZK 28,990.
  • Svět rovnátek lists clear aligners from CZK 49,990 (minor correction, one jaw) to CZK 109,990 for complex cases.
  • Kocman stomatologie lists Spark aligners at CZK 51,000–102,000, depending on the plan.
  • Dental Office H33 lists Invisalign at CZK 39,000–99,000, depending on the treatment.
  • YourDentist.cz lists a basic aligner treatment of up to 20 aligners at CZK 70,000.
  • Dynasty Stomatology lists aligner sets from CZK 72,000 (light cases) to CZK 108,000–150,000 for difficult cases.

The price usually depends on how many aligners you need, whether one or both jaws are treated, and what’s included. Some clinics charge separately for the initial consultation and scan, for mid-treatment reviews or refinement aligners, and for retainers at the end. Ask for a written plan with the total cost. Our page of dentist prices in Prague compares other treatments too.

Does insurance pay for Invisalign?

Czech public health insurance offers only limited orthodontic cover for children and teenagers, and adults usually pay for orthodontic treatment themselves. Clear aligners are typically paid privately. Private health insurance for foreigners and travel insurance rarely cover them. See what Czech health insurance covers at the dentist for details.

Choosing an Invisalign clinic in Prague

  • Who plans the treatment? Ask whether an orthodontist or a general dentist will plan and supervise it. The Czech Dental Chamber’s directory of dentists records specialist qualifications in orthodontics.
  • How often are check-ups? Treatment can last many months, so choose a clinic you can reach easily, or ask whether some check-ups can be done remotely.
  • What if you leave Prague? Expats should ask what happens if they move before treatment ends: whether the remaining aligners can be handed over and how the cost is settled.
  • Language. Use the language filter above, or see English speaking dentists in Prague.

Questions to ask before starting Invisalign

  1. Am I a good candidate for aligners, or would braces work better for my teeth?
  2. Which aligner system do you use, and how many aligners do you expect I’ll need?
  3. How long will treatment take, and how often will I need to come in?
  4. What does the price include: scans, check-ups, refinements, retainers?
  5. What happens if the teeth don’t move as planned?
  6. Which retainer will I need afterwards, and for how long?
